The Fall and the Expulsion

Below, they leave the enclosed garden, symbol of Paradise, as the angel drives the pair through the gate. They are protesting, and hiding their nakedness with fig leaves. As Adam descends the steps, a thorn, an allusion to sin's fruit, wounds his knee
